The homeowner wanted a multi-functional exterior living space with room enough for entertaining that would enhance the exterior architecture of her mid-century modern home overlooking a golf course. The homeowner also desired the space to be “kid friendly,” feature an in-ground swimming pool and accommodate a variety of family activities.
Prior exterior renovations, the space consisted of a small patio and a steep, sloping yard. The yard area itself was large, so room to create a dynamic outdoor living area was available.
Using all mediums and textures to accurately reflect the mid-century modern architecture of the home, the design plan expanded the patio area into a sufficient space for a luxurious custom pool and jet spa by adding a cantilevered, weather-resistant deck over the sloping yard. A separate pool house for pump storage included a full bath and shower, offset by a fully-functioning outdoor kitchen with professional-grade appliances and bar seating. A separate playground area was also created, adjacent to the main space. Dramatic lighting and expanded vignette seating accented the space throughout, while beautiful, container plantings and a streamlined deck railing system created a sense of privacy without adding dominate fencing. Maximizing the cantilevered deck over the sloping yard to its fullest potential, the space under the deck was transformed into a golf cart garage, which incorporated a pavered cart path leading to the adjacent golf course.
